Bullets Over Broadway

On Broadway-at The St. James Theatre

This was a lively little ditty of a musical. I really wasn’t expecting much of this Musical since there was zip, zero, nada, zilch new music.  So I bought a ticket in the rear of the mezzanine at a highly discounted price.
I figured there would be plenty of open seats on a Tuesday night, and I would be able to move up. I was wrong on both counts.  The theatre was packed and I was pleasantly surprised at just how much I was enjoying this

Zach Braff is cute enough, but I did not find his singing particularly special and do not think he has a great future in musical theatre.  What the show lacked in song  (or new songs) could be somewhat overlooked
because it was very funny at times and there were also dancing girls doing some great dance numbers.  The character of Cheech played by Nick Cordero was an audience favorite.  Marin Mazzie and Brooke Ashmanskas,  broadway veterans, were also divine.

So I think Woody has pulled it off!  He is strangely brilliant, you know.   Thisbroadsway says what’s not to love about gangsters and dames?  See it, even if you are a musical snob.   –thisbroadsway 3/21/14
