(Spoiler alert)-This is a genius piece of rock-musical by David Byrne & Fatboy Slim. I think this is a show that every cool New Yorker has to do. That's right you don't see it you do it! The show closed at the Public last winter and I was so disappointed to have missed it, but it was sold out every night. I was thrilled for its return and jumped to get the first available tickets. They warn you that this show has bright lights, loud explosive sound, and smoke effects, so that was all the cue I needed.

This was a musical that detailed the political life of Ferdinand, but more so Imelda Marcos.

The entire audience stands (there is very limited balcony seating if you really don't want to, or cannot stand for 80 minutes, but I don't recommend it for the full effect). One of the many stages, thecenter stage is constantly being moved, and as it does you are directed to move with it. After I got home I was kind of thinking that it seems silly for them to keep moving the stage around and why couldn't they just do the show without that but I think it gave a perspective so that everybody in the theater had a front row seat at some point. This is 360° theater or maybe it's 720° theater. I say this because not only does the action take place in front of you but alsoit's taking place all around you simultaneously. This is really amazing.

I don't think I need to tell you the story but you may be surprised at what they don't mention in this production. What I will tell you is the score is terrific. Not only are kids that play Ferdinand (Jose Llana) and Imelda (Ruthie Ann Miles) super hot, but they sing and dance fiercely. And I will say the same for the ensemble cast. The whole lot of these young, vibrant thespians are running, jumping, dancing, and singing their hearts out! It's fun filled, non-stop action and you're encouraged to dance. There's even a sing-along finale. Did you know the Filipinos invented karaoke?

I wonder if Imelda will come to see this herself? After all she is still alive and living in the Philippines and worth $5 billion! This BroadSway says put on one of your 3000 pairs of shoes and get to the Public and see Here Lies Love, where everyone is a star. thisbroadSway 4/27/14
