I love a cabaret, and especially when it starts with Jamie deRoy & friends. So
on Monday night, I put on my red dress and headed on down to the Metropolitan
Room, for what I knew would be a fun filled evening. I was not disappointed.
The entire cast was a talented line up of Tony Award winners, the theme of the
night. That includes Jamie herself, who has won two Tony Awards as a
producer, one last year for Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, and one in
2009 for The Norman Conquests. Thisbroadsway predicts an additional Tony on
the mantle after this Sunday! Break a leg A Gentleman's Guide to Love and
Murder
In all we had: two belting divas, Adriane Lenox and Karen Ziemba, A ventriloquist,
Jay Johnson, Jennifer Barnhart and Rick Lyon from the original cast of Avenue
Q with puppets in tow, and director, lyricist, screenwriter, Richard Maltby,
Jr. who gave us some fascinating theatre history, and sang an extremely witty
song, that I really need to get my hands on.
The real star of the show is Ms. deRoy herself, who is not only charming,
beautiful and downright hilarious, but she has the keen ability to seek out
the most amazing talent and put them all on one stage for a night that is
full of delightful entertainment.
I’ve been to many of Jamie’s shows now, and they just keep getting better. From
the opening number (which Jamie restarted eluding that she forgot the
words…it was just part of the fun of the night if you ask me) to the grand
finale with the Avenue Q puppets of “Consider Yourself”, thisbroadsway
considers herself extremely lucky to have shared in this magical evening.
A hats off also to the amazing Director, Barry Kleinbort and Musical Director, Ron
Abel.
