The Dozen Divas Show with Dorothy Bishop

Cabaret at the Metropolitan Room

It’s Halloween, and we are comfy cozy in our banquette at the Metropolitan Room drinking our “witches brew” the theme drink of the night.   This show could not have opened more perfectly with Elvira, singing “I Put a Spell on you” and then followed by one of my all time favorites “Sweet Transvestite” from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.  Of course the words have been somewhat rearranged in good parody format to fit the female delivery.

Dorothy Bishop is the queen of impersonation, and while I think she was two or three short of a
dozen, I did not feel cheated in the least.   In all there was Shirley Bassey’s "Goldfinger”, Sarah Brightman’s “Phantom of the Opera”, Barbra Streisand singing Ke$ha’s “Blow”, and the list goes on with Stevie Nicks’, Madonna, Liza and a fan favorite is Barbra having a skype session with Judy Garland from heaven that flows into that classic duet of “Happy Days are Here Again” -”Get Happy”. And what better way to end a diva show?  Cher of course singing “The Way of Love”. Just brilliant.  Just wow.

Although this show is full of laughs, there is no hiding that Dorothy has an amazing voice of operatic quality, and that’s no joke.  In addition, this beauty has a smoking hot body that you cannot hide wrapped in spandex.

Dorothy has mastered her characters and continues to evolve the show adding new material and always keeping it fresh, which is why I’ve seen the show 3 times and will go back for the 4th and 5th and to every one that I can.

The newest addition to her act is Luther, the singing Chihuahua.  Dorothy rescued little Luther in Mexico, and ironically found, that like her, he was predisposed to singing soprano, and starts howling along to all the high notes.  It’s priceless.

Bernie Furshpan, owner of the Metropolitan Room, loved the show, and told me that they have made Dorothy a resident performer.  I’m not quite sure what that means, but I’m guessing they want to keep this hot number around for a long time.

Of course the show does not go on without the creative team, James Jorden, original
Co-Writer/Director and  new to the team, John Paolillo Writer/Director and the indispensable Carla Lynne Hall who assists Dorothy with all those dozens of beautiful costumes and the little man, Luther.
