Hedwig and the Angry Inch

On Broadway-at The Belasco Theatre

One of the wonderful things about Broadway, is that you can go out every night and have a totally different theatrical experience each time. Hedwig was just one example. I was seeing this with little background and having never seen the movie.

My young companion was so excited and told me she's been waiting 10 years to see this, so I was curious. Neil Patrick Harris brings this character to perfect light in this rock concert-like musical. I am no rock 'n roll fan but I really did enjoy the music, which this show was full of, as well a light blast extravaganza. (I’m sure there was a seizure warning somewhere). Lena Hall who plays Yitzhak, Hedwig's husband, was impressive, with a voice of silky perfection. Between the two of them the stage was on fire. I commend Neil Patrick Harris on pulling this off. He was adorned in hot heavy wigs and costume for much of the time, and was prancing around in 6 to 8 inch platform heels. For the first week of previews, this was a remarkable performance.

What can you say about Neil Patrick Harris? The kids got a body to die for, he can sing, he can dance, he can act, and is absolutely gorgeous to boot. (He also happens to be a very charming guy, as I had the recent pleasure of meeting him in person).

Be prepared for the sensational finale. The house was full, rambunctious, androgynous and highly energized at all times. I’ve never seen so many lip sinking wigglers at the theatre, although present company was not included. Thisbroadsway says get onboard. You will flip your wig
